The thinking behind Infosound.
There are over 2 million blind and partially-sighted people in the United Kingdom, where someone starts to lose their sight every 15

COMMENT From Gordon in Stirling:
"Given that it is quite hard to find one source of information on everything affecting blind people like myself, Infosound appears to be offering all the best content and information and I also appreciate the clarity of the recording and ease of use of the internet service. I tend to prefer to get information provided in a neat, 'here's the facts' type of way, so the web-edition style was very good."

minutes. With this in mind, our aim is to bring free, accessible, impartial and relevant information to vision-impaired people across the UK. This rolling information service is equally relevant to those who may have lived with sight loss all of their lives and those who are newly diagnosed as blind ('severely sight-impaired') or partially-sighted ('sight-impaired').
We neither sell nor promote any particular service, product or opinion. Infosound is strictly impartial, non-commercial and is a free public service and a registered charity.
What Infosound offers.
We produce information in short (3 to 10 minute) audio features about the practical issues encountered by someone who lives with sight loss. We cover subjects such as finance, leisure, mobility, products, health, employment, training, services, travel, hobbies, daily-living advice and support and, importantly, we talk to those who have something to say on the subject.
Everything we produce is made available just as soon as it has been produced and anyone can browse our current selection of audio features and choose what they want to hear at any time. Individual audio features are also podcast.
Infosound also "twitters" - offering short, informal text updates on what we're doing and highlighting interesting information we've come across and we trail our service on You Tube.

COMMENT From John in Warlingham, Surrey:
"Excellent! A very professional presentation of useful facts and information. I like to download the briefings to CD so that my wife and I can listen in the car as we drive. Wishing you all every success."

We don't produce a regular, such as monthly, audio magazine but, from time to time when enough new features are ready, we update our compilation of current features. This selection normally lasts for roughly 15 minutes. The latest compilation is 'broadcast' on Internet radio services that make our service available to their listeners.
All of our audio material can be played and downloaded from this web site and listened to on a computer or transferred to cassette, CD, mp3 player or memory device.
There is a section on this web site specifically for those directly involved in talking newspapers and magazines, community, hospital and Internet radio stations and other information providers that could benefit vision impaired people. [visit Support for Media Services section]
